WebLike, a cis bond is where the bonds on either side of two double-bonded carbons face the same direction, so the molecule "bends", where as in a trans bond, they face different directions, so the molecule stays "straight". I don't really get why they have to use terms from fucking chemistry, and no, don't make any silly analogies about it.
